First flight with the new squadron after being transferred in from combat training.
Stab and 6th staffel were tasked with escorting a flight of JU52's out of Anapa then to land at our new airfield, Kerch. The squadron is being forced out of Anapa due to encroaching Russian defenses.
We encountered a flight of spitfires that dove in on us from even higher altitude. We attempted to provide cover for the JU52's but only 2 were able to land, one was shot down.
During the engagement I saw many 109's shot down, including Rudolf Lux, and stab leader was abducted by aliens mid flight (VR issue). I was left by myself with a dwindling force of 109's. I stuck with it for a bit, got good hits on a spitfire, but probably not enough to bring him down. Witnessed Yellow 1 have his rudder shot off and crash with no chute. The same spitfire came for me and put on a lot of pressure, but I managed to stay evasive and avoided taking a hit. I kept maneuvering to get an angle but this pilot was very good. I managed to get under his belly and extend away, surveying what was left of our forces. All I could see was Spits, so I hit the deck and headed west across the peninsula towards Kerch.
I found yellow 12 had the same idea about heading west and grouped back up just off the coast of Kerch. We both came in for a landing. His plane was badly damaged, and damaged even further on landing. Definitely not flyable, right wing damaged. It looks like we were the only 2 pilots to make it to Kerch. Hell of a first mission with the new squadron. What have I gotten myself into........
