General Report ..................................................................................................................................................................... (6.)
Ground attack to Taman peninsula, to attack headquarters.
1st and 2nd flight took off to the east, and I provided high cover for the group. Unfortunately I was immediately jumped from our high six. they must have been sitting VERY high above kerch and dove in on us. I immediately lost my right wing and had to bail out over the north island in the middle of the straight. I managed to chute down and land on land and heard my leader on my portable emergency radio call to head to the light house at the south of the island. I made my way there and could see the unmistakable outline of my groupkommander's white 109 cover me just in case, but to my luck, it seems the Russians had abandoned the island by this time in the war.
I waited at the island for about an hour until I was picked up by a friendly schellboat that had been sent to rescue me.
Unlucky, but very lucky at the same time.
