Engaged 3? spitfires attacking Ju 87s. Followed lead on a high-speed westward chase of one spit. He got hits... as we turned north, black 1 called a hostile approaching fast; I was negligent in spotting this so late. Sighted him just as he engaged lead. Rolled up and around, stuck on spitfire as he broke off lead. Followed in high speed chase; he went high and I pushed emergency power, got solid hits. He tried to evade; I chopped power and fired a long burst from dead six at very short range. Broke up and over; witnessed him enter a spin.
Saw one spitfire smoking below but stuck to lead and headed west. Saw Black 1 and 8 engaged in further battle to our south. Near Anappa, lead's engine quit and he bailed.
