. . .
What a day. What a day indeed.
Big clump of us, four in Yellow flight and three in Stab, took off towards Krymskaya for an intercept of an expected flight of Il-2s. I flew element lead. We found the flight relatively quickly and engaged their escorting Yaks while Stab rushed in to get the attackers. That was apparently a mistake. Things quickly descended into the biggest furball I ever saw. I nearly hit my lead, Yellow 6, which I feel pretty guilty about. Then I took out a Yak, and Il-2, and another Yak (if I remember correctly -- it was a blur). My wingman, Yellow 12, was hit and had to leave midway through, and Yellow 10 collided trying to down an Il-2. He just arrived, too. I hope he didn't try getting that close after seeing me do it.
After the dust settled, I headed back to Anapa as the only undamaged plane of the survivors. As for the others, we lost Yellow 10, Stab <2, and Stab < -- Hptm. Burger. He died after reportedly getting his 100th kill before his wing gave out. Fuck man. He taught me how to fight. This one's gonna sting.
