General Report ..................................................................................................................................................................... (6.)
Our mission today was to escort heavies bombing targets south of Stalingrad. We took off from our field and climbed to 4500m heading north. After a 25-minute flight time, we were jumped by a pair of P-40s from above approaching our ingress into our mission area. Seems like they were on a free hunt as no other targets were in the area. We engaged in a fight, exchanging rounds until I ended up hitting a deflection shot on the wingman's aircraft. After that, he leveled out and I finished him off with cannon shots. Once he fell into a flat spin my attention turned to my wingman being shot at by the lead P-40. I climbed to intercept and managed to break the enemy off of my wingman. We engaged in a turn fight ending up with his aircraft being hit by multiple cannon rounds, falling out of the sky.
After our engagement, we proceeded to the rendezvous point only to find the bombers had already left. Due to fuel and ammo concerns, my flight turned around and headed back to base.
