General Report ..................................................................................................................................................................... (6.)

Final mission report of JG52 in the Kuban region. Mission: intercept massive bomber formation heading to wipe out our supplies. flight of 11 109's in 3 sections.

Group took off and patrolled along the channel coast, spotted large formation south of our coast heading inland to the NW. All sections engaged and ID'd as PE2 x8 and Yak9 x 8 or so as well. Unfortunately we did not get to the bombers fast enough and they did hit the target. we tried to chase them back to anapa but PE2's are extremely fast and only a couple fighters managed to catch up. While in chase, enemy fighters were trailing and any time I would get close they would turn to engage and prevent me from catching up to the bombers. I formed up with Yellow 7 and we proceeded to try and at least take out a couple fighters. 7 got at least one, and I killed 2 myself. Unfortunately I took some heavy rounds to my left wing and attempted to head back since I was also bingo fuel. I was jumped again by a VERY fast and lone yak. He dove on me three times but I managed to evade all 3 attempts. He eventually finally turned back and I was able to RTB and land at bagerovo successfully.

It looks like only 3 of us made it back and another 2 or 3 had to land at alternate airfields due to damage. another 4 or so were shot down over russian lines and lost.

One doozie of a mission and a hell of a way to wrap up our part of the war in this theater. Squadron leaves for crimea tomorrow with as many planes as we can get back to airworthy.
